Projects

Projects are used to group samples. LiST distinguishes the following project types:

  • Sample User Project A project where 2DCC personnel growths and delivers samples to a 2DCC user. Those samples are grown using established growth processes, or existing samples are moved to such a project and shipped (or handed over in case of Penn State Users). Sample projects are usually established with a sample requests, that is a certain number of samples that will be grown and shipped.
  • Research User Project Those are projects that explore novel growth processes, materials, substrates for a 2DCC user. There are often a larger number of samples on such projects, and only when the desired sample quality has been achieved some of those samples get shipped to users
  • Inhouse Inhouse projects are used for research happening at 2DCC. That includes establishing and refining growth processes for samples later offered to users in Sample projects, as well as any samples made or characterized for inhouse publications.
  • RSVP The Resident Scholar Visitor Program a training and professional development program, RSVP users work on site and use LiST for their own projects similar to 2DCC personnel.
  • Data Only Data Only projects contain data sets that give access to existing samples, eg. samples of a specific material, or made in a specific material.

All samples in LiST have to associated to a project, so whenever a sample is created in LiST, a project has to be chosen. A sample can be transferred to another project later. The project also determines who can see and modify samples.

For User Projects, project documents like proposals or reviews are tacked in LiST using Project Activities.

Data Packages

LiST offers two ways to publish samples, by project, or by dedicated data packages. When a project is set to public, all containing samples will be publicly available. Data packages are used to publish a set of samples, which can also be linked to a publication.

Bulk View

To facilitate working with growth runs with several samples and samples that are prepared before growth instrument or date are known, a dedicated User Interface for the Bulk Research Group has been developed. It is accessible when a bulk researcher or faculty is connected to LiST.
